Branding on the Inside: Building a Marketing Foundation

company logo is a good start on branding

A company logo is a good start to brand marketing!

You have a company logo you love so you’re off to a good branding start! You realize the benefits of a polished business image on your company website, brochures, advertisements, business cards, giveaways, etc.

But, what does your brand look like on the inside?

Is your logo used with consistency on your internal documents? Are your business forms, training manuals, signage, and correspondence all designed with the same style and logo? Do your internal communications reflect the same polish and professionalism as your public marketing materials? If the answer is no, it’s time to redesign on the inside!

Set the guidelines for your logo and branding.

Having sharp, well-designed and appropriately branded materials for internal use encourages a standard of professionalism and pride in your business. Attention to the finer details of your daily business communications filters outward into everything else you do to market your business.

Medium to large-sized businesses often have a branding manual that helps to maintain proper usage of the company logo and its internal and external applications.  For smaller businesses, a branding guideline can be as simple as maintaining a single, current, high-resolution logo file that is used whenever and wherever needed. It is also helpful to make note of the color(s) used in your logo and materials so that the colors don’t vary over time and with different applications.

Your employees care when you care.

If you care about your company’s image and brand on the inside, your employees will follow suit. They’ll get the message that you are committed to professionalism even when it doesn’t show to your clients. Think about how a successful chef cares about a sparkling kitchen, even if the customers never see it. It sets the bar for excellence.  It’s time to shine up your business “kitchen” too!

Building a marketing foundation

The benefits of internal branding are numerous but primarily help lay the groundwork for a professional, consistent image that represents your brand. Your internal communications create the foundation for your public marketing. Take the time to brand on the inside!
